Rain & Thunder
Relentless rain these past few weeks has postponed much-anticipated events at the Thunder Road Speedway in Barre, VT. Today, July 3rd, with a spectacular holiday event planned at the .25-mile paved short track, we thought we’d run this photo-essay by Corey Hendrickson. What’s so intriguing about these images of Thunder Road is that they were shot in 2007—the last days for the pre-digital era— with a Mamiya 7ii medium-format film camera and are finally seeing the light of day.
“I actually thought these photos were gone for good. I lost my entire archive of negatives and prints in (Hurricane) Irene when my storage unit became part of the Winooski River in Waterbury.” Corey recalls. “I recently found an old offsite backup drive at my folks and these scans were on there. … There is something about discovering old negatives, or scans… like the proverbial shoe box under the bed of old photos.”
Big thanks to Corey for this Vermont time capsule, and to sunny skies shining down on us at long last. Happy 4th of July, folks!
